Meditate ‘dead’ (not death)

A colloquial Taoist saying:
若要人不死,除非死个人。

If you want to attain the deathless, you must be prepared to die.

One technique of meditation is to contemplate being dead.
When you meditate, give yourself away. Let all the hungry ghosts eat your body. Be generous, be charitable. Donate your life to the universe.
Let whoever or whatever need of you take it all. Let them take.

The mantra is also very simple – I’m dead, I’m dead, I’m dead…

Keep giving everything away, absolutely everything, until you discover the one thing you can’t.
The only thing that remains despite you best effort to give away.

It is the ‘I’ – the giver.

*

You are the giver, not the given.
